Kevin Costner Loses EVERYTHING Over Horizon Lawsuit!

Kevin Costner’s Dream Turns Into a Nightmare: Divorce, ‘Yellowstone’ Exit, and the Horizon Disaster

Kevin Costner’s life has completely transformed over the past few years — and not for the better. From a messy and very public divorce to his sudden exit from Yellowstone, the actor has endured more than his share of personal and professional turmoil. But nothing compares to the heartbreak of watching his passion project, Horizon, collapse in the most brutal way imaginable. What was meant to be his magnum opus has turned into a financial and legal storm that now threatens his entire fortune.

It all started with a bold vision. Costner poured an astonishing $100 million of his own money into Horizon, determined to create an epic multi-chapter Western saga. This wasn’t just a side project — it was his life’s work. To complete funding, his production company, Horizon Series, secured a $25.5 million loan from City National Bank and partnered with New Line Cinema for international distribution and additional financing.

But the deal quickly soured. Horizon Series allegedly failed to deliver its full share of the financing, forcing New Line to step in and cover the shortfall. City National Bank still claimed it was owed money, filing for arbitration against both Horizon Series and New Line. In turn, New Line filed a cross-complaint against Horizon, accusing them of leaving the studio to pick up the tab. Suddenly, Costner’s dream project was tangled in a messy web of lawsuits.

Financially, the results have been devastating. Horizon: Chapter 1 earned only about $22 million domestically — shockingly low given the massive investment. Costner had even left Yellowstone, one of television’s biggest hits, to focus fully on the film. The stakes couldn’t be higher. He not only starred in Horizon, but also directed, co-wrote, and bankrolled it. This was supposed to be his legacy.

Artistically, the film is visually stunning, with sweeping cinematography and rich historical detail set in 1860s America. But its slow pacing and sprawling narrative left many viewers divided. Some praised it as ambitious and deeply layered; others criticized it for lacking emotional clarity. Costner himself admitted that Chapter 1 was “just setting the table” for a much bigger story. Unfortunately, given the current situation, the rest of that story may never be told.

Chapter 2 has premiered at the Venice Film Festival but has yet to see a wide release. Filming for Chapter 3 barely began — only eight days of shooting — before the project stalled. Everything now hangs in the balance as legal disputes and financial losses pile up.

For Costner, this is more than a box office disappointment; it’s the possible undoing of decades of hard work and careful career building. He once described Horizon as his “private UFO” — a mysterious, once-in-a-lifetime journey worth risking everything for. But now, it seems that journey could cost him everything he has. Whether this saga ends in redemption or ruin remains to be seen.
